SET 2009

Conference Overview

It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 8th International Conference on Sustainable Energy Technologies "SET 2009", to be held in the historic city of Aachen, Germany, between August 31 and September 3, 2009.

The SET (Sustainable Energy Technologies) Conferences have been held every year since 2002. They continue to play a central role in providing an excellent forum for reviewing the present state-of-the-art low carbon technologies and discussing the challenges and appropriate measures that can be taken in order to move forward on the path towards sustainability for the 21st century and beyond.

The first conference was held in Portugal (Porto 2002), followed by China (Chongping, 2003), United Kingdom (Nottingham, 2004), China (Shandong, 2005), Italy (Vicenza, 2006), Chile (Santiago, 2007), and Korea (Soeul 2008) where more than 300 papers were presented. We believe that SET 2009 will be as successful and we have added 2 further categories to the technical sessions in response to demand.

Especially, there will be a number of quality keynote and invited papers from famous scholars, industry and government officials abroad: Pierre Dechamps ( Advisor to the President of the European Commission on Energy and Cimate Change, Belgium), Dr Johannes Heithoff (Vice President of R & D RWE Power AG, Germany), Prof Reinhart Madlener (E.O.N. Energy Research Centre, Aachen), Dr Johnathon Porritt (Chaiman of the Sustainable Development Commission, UK),   Dr Ulf Bossel (CEO European Fuel Cell Forum, Switzerland), Dr Frank Bauman (CEO - Energy Agency of North Rhine Wesfalia, Germany), Prof Manuel Guedes (Head of Sustainable Architecture, IST, Portugal), Saffa B. Riffat (University of Nottingham, UK) to name just a few.

Special attention will be given on this conference to the international match-making meetings where companies and organsiations can discuss international cooperation and technology transfer. We have also set up a number of high-level technical tours where delegates can see the newest technologies and developments with technical presentations on site.

Aachen is the unique and beautiful ancient city on the boarders of Germany, Holland and Belgium and has always played a central role in history. Aachen is a university city which distinguishes itself by it's culture, historical sights, cultural attractions, presentation of the international Karlspreis (Charlemagne Award), events such as the international dressage, jumping and riding tournament CHIO in Aachen, as well as museums of many kinds and, last but not least, the excellent restaurants and tourist facilities.

The most important historical epoch of Aachen started with the takeover of the government by Charlemagne in 768 AD and continues today in which the famous Technical University of Excellence, RWTH-Aachen University, is located. Delegates will have the special opportunity to enjoy this historic university town as well as the extensive and high quality presentations at the SET 2009 conference.

You can join us putting your expertise and knowledge in this international forum by taking part in SET 2009. We are looking forward to welcome you in Aachen, Germany.
